Recreating the old Munich from 1900
The task was to create the impression of the main building to be situated on top of a hill overlooking the center of old Munich with all landmarks visible in the frame as well.
For the small cobblestone alley, we needed to fill in some extra houses leading the view down into the distance. As the view from the building would be featured in other scenes as well, I created the street and the buildings in Maya to be able to reuse the setting for continuity. (see images below)
Reusing the 3D setup for the next scenes
For this scene, the rooftops of the houses on the other side needed to be visible to indicate the height of the location inside.
The scene with the mirror:
Matte painting for the \”Wies\’n\” from above
And a huge painting was needed for the revealer shot of the Wies\’n. Showing sandy overgrown terrain with cart trails as well as markings for the tents.
